Chakras: The Subtle Energies of the Body

Friday, February 29th, 2008

By Alan Davidson The subtle energies of the body, Polarity Therapy, Tantra and cultivating sexual energy Empirical science has yet to prove the existence of the subtle anatomies. Yet the mystical traditions have articulated them for millennium. The Sepherot of the Kaballistic Tree of Life, the meridians of the Chinese acupuncture system and the chakras of the Ayurvedic system are examples. They all convey the knowledge of a subtle energy which they assert is the link between the spiritual realms and life as we know it. Each uses their unique language and concepts to describe the precipitation of the mind of God into energy and into physical manifestation. The Chinese call this energy chi, ki by the Japanese and prana by the Hindus. The Kahunas of Hawaii call it mana; Christ called it light. The system of Ayurvedic medicine has evolved over the past 5,000 years. It is based on the Hindu scriptural Vedas, which are the worlds oldest documented spiritual writings. Ayurveda offers a highly specific description of the subtle anatomy. It recognizes five sheaths, or layers of energy through the body. They are described from the most dense to the most subtle. The first and outer most layer is the bones, muscle and skin. The next, more, subtle sheath is respiration. Next in subtlety is the sheath of cognition, associated with the nervous system and the thinking mind. Next is the sheath of discretion, which relates to our moral choices and their consequences. Most subtle of all is the chakra system; the interface between the cosmic vibrations of creation and the grosser anatomical systems of the physical body. Chakra, from the Sanskrit, means wheel of spinning light. The ancients taught there are seven chakras in the body. They are located just in front of and along the spinal column. These generators and reservoirs of energy are also areas of consciousness. The first five chakras are associated with an element of nature (earth, water, fire, air, or ether) and with one of the senses (smell, taste, sight, touch and hearing). All of the chakras are associated with a tonal quality, a numerical and alphabetical value, and a color. When the chakras are in tune the body, mind and spirit experience harmony. Charles and Caroline Muir offer an analogy: Consider the chakras as the strings of a guitar. Each string vibrates at a different frequency and gives off a different note. Over time the strings may resonate sharp or flat, and they require tuning. When they are in tune, the sound the guitar produces is harmonious. Similarly, when the chakras are in tune, one achieves harmony. The Base chakra is found at the coccyx bone at the tip of the spine. It resonates with the earth element, the adrenal glands of the endocrine system and the sense of smell. It rules the organs of structure such as bones, muscles, and connective tissues as well as elimination. There is a correlation between the earth element and our need for structure and safety in the world. The second chakra is found at the sacrum. It resonates with the water element, the reproductive glands and the sense of taste. It rules the fluids of the body such as blood, lymph, sexual secretions and tears. It correlates to sexuality and all creative energies. There is an interesting link between the sense of taste and sexuality in this chakra. Mantak Chia, in his book Taoist Secrets of Love, states: Many people confuse the hunger for food and sex as being similar biological desires that are both necessary for survival. Clearly they are connected, as many people feeling sexual frustration turn to food for gratification. An imbalance in ching (sex) energy ranks as a major cause of obesity—when you are sexually frustrated, food is the easiest substitute. The third chakra is found at the solar plexus. It resonates with the fire element, the Isles of Langerhan (which produce insulin in the pancreas) and the sense of sight. It rules the organs of digestion and metabolism. This chakra correlates to the assertion of and the abuse of power. The fourth chakra is found at the heart. This is the center for the Air element, the thymus gland and the sense of touch. The heart chakra rules respiration and immunity. With the arms it addresses how we bring the world to us and how we share ourselves with the world. It correlates to a sense of altruistic love in the world. The fifth chakra is found at the throat. It rules the Ether element, the thyroid and para-thyroid glands, the organs of speech and the sense of hearing. The throat chakra correlates to speaking ones truth and to taking action based on that truth. The last two chakras transcend the denser elements and senses. These are the subtlest energetic harmonics. The sixth chakra, often called the 3rd eye, is found between the eye brows. It relates to the 6th sense of psychic and paranormal experience. It is associated with the pituitary gland of the endocrine system and is the source of spiritual vision. The Crown Chakra is found at the top of the head and it relates to the pineal gland. This is the seat of mystical experience. It is the place where the mind releases all boundaries and concepts and experiences life in its full unity. There are a number of energy therapy systems such as Reiki and Therapeutic Touch. In my own journey I have found Polarity Therapy to be the most effective way to effect the chakra energy system. Polarity Therapy is the lifes work and teachings of Dr. Randolph Stone. Dr. Stone was a doctor of osteopathy, a doctor of naturopathy and a chiropractor. He would treat clients for symptoms and then notice that they returned with the same chronic pains and illnesses. As well trained as he was he felt he was missing something. His curiosity led him to study mystical healing modalities across the world. Richard Gordon describes Dr. Stones search: In China and France he studied acupuncture and herbology. In the orient, he learned reflexology and other eastern massage techniques. In the course of his work, he stumbled across the ancient Spagyric art of healing as taught by the great Doctor Paracelsus von Hohenheim, who had studied in Arabia. This provided Dr. Stone with essential knowledge of subtle electromagnetic fields of the body. Over the course of sixty years, Dr. Stone integrated this wealth of knowledge into a system he named Polarity Therapy. Dr. Stone realized that successful healing must take place on the energetic fields as well as the physical level. Thats why chronic pain and illness often return when treatments just address the physical symptoms. Polarity utilizes gentle touch, rocking and deep pressure point work to release blocked energy in the energy fields. Dr. Robert K. Hall, MD teaches it this way: the work calls forth the spirit found at the very core of an individual. The essence of that core is Love. To experience true healing all the trauma and fear that is layered over that core of love must come out. Thats what we at the Lomi School call working through the body. Many therapeutic models do their work on a body, or something you do to people. Working through the body calls forth the very essence of spirit. Cultivating sexual energy The Eastern traditions recognize that sexual energy can be a potent source of spiritual energy. The Kaballists have their Sex Magic, the Taoists have their erotic rituals and the East Indians and Tibetans have Tantra. Tantra is the art and science of cultivating sexual energy and directing it to spiritual transformation. Deepak Chopra says, Tantra is the closest you can get to magic or alchemy or transmutation. Tantric rituals are basically spiritual disciplines that allow you to trap and transform power. When properly understood, tantra is one of the most dynamic and consistent paths to enlightenment. Of course, sexuality is a component of it. Tantra acknowledges that sexual energy is the most powerful energy in the universe because it is the creative energy in the universe. I think exploring the concepts and practices of Erotic rituals are important for westerners. We have a deep sexual wounding from our Judeo-Christian heritage. Our sexual natures were first denied when Adam and Eve saw their nakedness as they were evicted from the Garden of Eden. The teaching of original sin is a body centered, sexual one. Erotic rituals teach us to hold our bodies as sacred. To experience sexual energy as the cosmic creative gift that it is. A primary key in Tantra is an ability to be present with your partner; to focus with eye-contact, to match the rhythms of the breath, or meditate together. Tantra also teaches the importance of mastering the orgasm. Women have four levels of orgasm: the clitoral orgasm, the vaginal orgasm, multiple orgasms and the amrita, or divine nectar. Men are taught to master ejaculation. Rather than lose their sexual energy out through the penis the orgasmic energy is directed up the chakras. Thus men become capable of multiple orgasms. Tantric rituals are most effective in committed long-term relationships. The defenses and barriers of our personality are healed in the safety, intensity and intimacy of our primary relationships. My friend Sean Michael used to say, Intimacy means In-To-Me- See. Keith Hennessy defines intimacy as, An un-armed encounter between two individuals. Both of these describe the expression of a self without the armor of defenses, a vulnerability of just being with another person. Commitment is needed to create the container that allows all the personality defenses to present themselves. Safety and vulnerability come as those defenses are consciously healed. Mastering erotic energy has two primary results. As the art of love making it creates ecstatic satisfaction. It also generates intense energy for healing on all levels of body, mind and spirit. As a teacher and a professional body-worker, I think it wise to add: a spiritual and body-centered transformation can be a personal journey and/or work with a teacher or professional. The practices that involve a teacher, a therapist or facilitator are not to be used for cultivating sexual energy. Healthy, consensual sex is defined as sex between two individuals who share an equal balance of power. This excludes professional relationships such as Doctor/Psychotherapist and patients, Lawyer/Massage therapist and clients, or teachers and students. Sex between a client and professional is abusive. Erotic rituals invoke powerful energetic experiences. Utilized unconsciously they negatively effect relationships and spiritual evolution. Fashion Design Drawing Lesson 1 - The Dress Form

Friday, February 29th, 2008

By James Vincent A good form is the foundation for all succeeding lessons. No matter how pretty a dress or design is, if it is placed on a ” dumpy ” figure, it will have no style whatever. In this lesson we first learn how to draw a layout for the form. In the next lesson we dress the same form in a very simple dress. A form must have good proportion and style. A form leaning forward, or making a bow, as one might express it, is not stylish, neither is one with too large a bust and a tiny waist; nor one with high, square shoulders. This form is used for dressmaker’s sketches, and for any dress to be placed on a lay figure. When the dress is on the human figure, action comes in play and a complete understanding of these lessons will enable the student to draw the human figure in a variety of positions. TO DRAW THE FORM When drawing the dress form place the figure in the center of the paper. This may be done by getting the proportions and measuring to see just where to begin the drawing. Leave a little more margin at the bottom, than at the top. Draw line 1, which is a very slight horizontal curve up, then lines 2, 3,4, 5, 6 and 7 as marked on the lesson plate. Line 2 is thrown out for the bust, and line 3 is thrown in at the waist, which throws the shoulders back. Lines 4 and 5 cross lines 2 and 3 at the waist, at first curving out for the hips, then curving in to the bottom of the skirt oval. Line 6 (center line of waist) follows line 2, not literally, but taking the general direction, getting straighter as it reaches the waist line. Line 7 (center line of skirt) runs straight down from line 6. See part A of the dress form figure: Dress Form The collar goes into the shoulders three (3) times and is about the same height. The lines of the collar curve down, as does the waist line, but the bottom of the sleeve curves up. In the back view this order is reversed, as is explained in Lesson II. The collar and waist fines curve up, and the bottom of the sleeve curves down. There are three planes at the waist: the front, and two sides. You observe but little of the far side in a three-quarter view. This is true of the collar also. These three planes on the waist run into each other, forming a graceful curve. The planes on the collar do the same. To test the accuracy of your form, drop the dotted lines from the center of the near shoulder to the end of the waist line. This line must be vertical or parallel with the edges of your paper. Drop the dotted line from the end of the far shoulder to the other end of the waist line. This line also must be vertical. Practice this figure, doing it many times. When you feel confident that you understand all that has preceded and can draw Fig. A with snap, take up Fig. B which is the dress form placed on Fig. A. If you have followed all directions carefully, you will have a good form on which any costume may be placed. Fashion-Design-Drawing.com can teach you to draw fashion design sketches too. If You Really Need A Dating Quiz, Maybe You Shouldn’t Be Dating

Thursday, February 28th, 2008

By Brian Fong Q. My boyfriend failed a dating quiz. Should I dump him? A. If you’re the type that hates to be dumped, then you should dump him before he finds out that you even asked this question. If you put so much value on a dating quiz that you’re willing to break off a relationship because someone “failed” it, then maybe you’re not ready for dating yet. You see, a dating quiz is written for entertainment purposes only. I’m not trying to be sexist here, but they are usually written for girls and young woman, and they are designed to prey upon your natural insecurities. They are biased towards some unrealistic viewpoint of what the perfect partner is and the perfect partner doesn’t exist. I remember a dating quiz that asked if my girlfriend reached over to unlock the driver’s door after I let her into the passenger door. If I answered “Yes” then she would make a perfect wife. If I answered “No” then I should run away! Come on, get real. If that’s all it took to be a perfect wife there would never be any divorces. My point, at the risk of repeating myself, is that a dating quiz shouldn’t be taken seriously. In fact, there is a good chance that they shouldn’t be taken at all. Your common sense knows whether or not you are dating someone who is good or bad for you. You don’t need some overworked writer, working against a deadline to fill up some white space in a magazine, or on a web site, to tell you whether or not you should dump someone on the basis of your answers to a dating quiz. Not if you’re anyone who is worth dating, that is. —————————————————————- Brian Fong run the popular quiz site http://www.QuizFaq.com Quiz Faq - Your solutions for the quiz. —————————————————————- Article Source: http://EzineArticles.com/?expert=Brian_Fong http://EzineArticles.com/?If-You-Really-Need-A-Dating-Quiz,-Maybe-You-Shouldnt-Be-Dating&id=23189 zolpidem for spasticity ambien snort withdrawal ambien ambien and alcohol

What Is Genital Warts And How To Treat This Disease

Tuesday, February 26th, 2008

By [http://ezinearticles.com/?expert=Yury_Bayarski] Yury Bayarski Genital Warts (condylomata acuminata) is a sexually transmitted disease (STD) caused by the human papilloma virus (HPV). Genital warts are one of the most common types of sexually transmitted diseases. Genital warts affect the moist tissues of the genital area. Warts appear as bumps or growths. In women, genital warts may grow on the vulva, cervix, inside and surrounding the vagina and anus. In men, genital warts are less common. In men, genital warts can grow on the scrotum or penis. Very rarely warts may appear on the lips or in the mouth after oral sex with an infected person. Genital warts vary in size and may even be so small that you can’t see them. Warts usually do not cause itching or burning. What causes Genital Warts? Genital Warts are caused by human papilloma virus. Human papilloma virus is one of the most common causes of sexually transmitted infection in the world. There are more than 100 types of HPV. Some of them cause the regular kind of warts you see on people’s hands and feet. More than 30 types of HPV cause genital warts. The virus can live in the body for a very long time without causing any symptoms. Genital warts are not the same warts commonly found on hands and feet. You cannot develop genital warts from the virus that causes common warts. How are genital warts spread? HPV is a very contagious sexually transmitted disease. HPV may be more likely transmitted when warts are present, but the virus can be transmitted even when there are no visible symptoms. There is a 60% risk of getting the infection in a single sexual contact with someone who has genital warts. Genital HPV is passed by skin-to-skin and genital contact, primarily during vaginal or anal sex. It might also be possible to pass it during oral sex. Development of warts usually occurs within 1 to 6 months after infection. This virus requires moisture and cannot survive outside the body for any length of time. Not everyone with the genital wart virus will have signs of disease. If you are infected but have no symptoms, you can still spread HPV to your sexual partner and/or develop complications from the virus. Experts believe that when a wart is present, the virus is active and more likely to be contagious. When the wart disappears, the virus is still there but may be less likely to spread. Treatment In many people, the immune system eventually controls the HPV. In 50% of the patients the infection is gone after 8 months, less than 10% of people are infected longer than 2 years. However there is no cure that will get rid of the HPV completely. Treatments can only reduce the number of warts or help them disappear faster. But the viral infection itself can’t be cured and continues to live inside your skin. Warts often return after they have been removed and you may need to have them removed more than once. Sometimes, if warts are left untreated, they may grow bigger and multiply. Genital warts can be treated with medications and surgery. Depending on factors such as the size and location of the genital warts, a doctor may offer you one of several ways to treat genital warts if they are visible. Topical medications (medications rubbed on the skin) can be used to remove warts. These medicines dissolve the warts and may have to be applied to the area a number of times for several weeks before the treatment is complete. Aldara (Imiquimod) cream - appears to boost your immune system’s ability to fight genital warts. It is applied three times a week for up to three months. It is most effective in women and least effective for penile warts. Podofilox (Condylox) - works by destroying genital wart tissue. Your doctor may want to administer the first application, and will recommend precautionary steps to prevent the medication from irritating surrounding skin. Never apply Podofilox internally. Trichloroacetic acid (TCA) - this chemical treatment burns off genital warts. TCA must always be applied by a doctor. Surgery may be necessary to remove larger warts, warts that don’t respond to medications. Surgical treatments options include: cryosurgery - this technique freezes the wart using liquid nitrogen laser treatment - light is used to destroy warts. This treatment is used for extensive or recurrent genital warts. electrodessication - this technique uses an electric current to destroy the warts How to reduce the risk of getting genital warts? The only effective way to prevent genital warts is not to have sex, or to only have sex with one uninfected partner who also only has sex with you. But there is no reliable way to assure that your sexual partner is not infected with the virus. Wearing condoms can help to significantly reduce your chances of getting HPV from someone who has it. However condoms will not protect you completely, because they don’t cover all of the skin that can be infected with HPV.Yury Bayarski is the author of Price-RX.com - a website that [http://www.price-rx.com/] compares prescription drug prices. Neuromodulation Is Now The Mainstream Therapy For Chronic Depression

Sunday, February 24th, 2008

By Charles Donovan The cover of the March 7, 2005 issue of Business Week titled REWIRING THE HUMAN BODY, describes how neuromodulation brings new hope to the four million desperate patients in the United States who suffer from the debilitating disease of chronic or treatment-resistant depression. The neuromodulation industry is just in its infancy and could double over the next several years as doctors are thrilled by this vision of the body electric. Why these implantable devices work are a bit of a mystery, but the potential upside is great. Unlike most antidepressants, these implants produce few side effects and are aimed at patients that currently have no alternative therapies that adequately treat their depression. Cyberonics Inc., the manufacturer of the vagus nerve stimulator, was listed as the leading company in the field of neuromodulation. The vagus nerve stimulator has been used to treat pharmaco-resistant epilepsy since 1997, now the FDA has approved the identical procedure to treat depression. This is wonderful news for the millions of desperate patients( and their families) who have been endlessly searching for an answer to their incurable disease. Woodturning Magic - From Firewood to Fabulous

Monday, February 18th, 2008

By Darrell Feltmate Over a hundred years to grow a tree and only a few months to take it down and burn it. Certainly people need heat and in my Nova Scotian climate a wood fire is a beauty to behold on a snowy night with the wind whistling round the door. But so much of the wood that moves on down the road in big logging trucks has hidden treasure inside. Knots and crotches and storm damage covered over with scar and bark to keep the tree alive and growing though the storms and years are, for the wood turner, the “X that marks the spot.” But no one else seems to want this wood except to burn it. Cabinet makers fear those weird grains and twists that trees make when they heal or when they have grown too much alone and resisted winds and sun. No, they want a board that cuts clean and straight with no surprises, one that will do what it is told and do only what is expected. Lumber men know that those areas of beauty are the areas that make a board crack and warp to worthlessness. Up steps the wood turner. For him, the tree with its twists and curves and scars is a hidden cache of ore to be mined, seeking treasure within. The log but with its outward swing that so annoys the sawyer who wishes a straight and uniform log to set through the mill promises a swirl of grain for the turner and a dramatic contrast from the sap and heart woods within. Knots and changes where the roots move off like spiders webs will give a rich feel to a bowl or vase. That crotch where the tree has begun to send off branches questing for food and providing shelter for birds and squirrels is now a mess for the sawyer. The lovely straight trunk has divided into sections too small for lumbering and there is tension in the wood where branches have resisted the pull of the earth for so many years. But the wood turner knows that within that crotch lies a wonderful feathered grain resembling nothing so much as an ostrich feather, waiting to display its glory to the world. So the tree finds its way to the turners yard. After careful consideration a chainsaw is heard and a piece falls to the ground. Brushing off any dirt that may dull a tool, the wood is carried in to the lathe and secured for turning. The bark is removed and the wood begins to reveal its grain, a mystery never before seen by the eyes of mankind. A reverent pause is spent as the wood is considered. Perhaps the figure is best seen if the wood is shifted a little one way or another. Maybe another cut will reveal still more beautiful wood. It was intended to turn a bowl but another shape like a box or a vase might be better to display the color and figure that have opened up. Coffee is poured and decisions are made. Now the first moment of truth has arrived. The wood spins, the tool is sharp, a deep breath is taken and the shavings hiss as the cuts begin. A form has been decided and the turner moves it from mind and heart to hand and heart as the lines are drawn in three dimensions before him or her. The spinning blurs the grain and the figure rests only in the turners mind. Questions abound. Will the next cut open up more beautiful figure or will it remove an exquisite section of grain that can never be restored. It is not as if a canvas is being prepared for paint or color knowing that a mistake can be scraped away and new colors mixed. Already the masters hand has decorated the medium. Now the responsibility rests with the one who opens the beauty to the world or leaves it piled in the shavings on the floor. What of the line? Will the piece be lightened by the form or made heavy and ponderous by the color of the wood. A line of grain can change everything. Perhaps a pause of the lathe will open the door to new considerations. Sometimes a little shift of the wood or a subtle shaving will make all the difference. Sooner of later a decision has to made and the piece is declared finished. Indeed, an appropriate finish needs to be put on the piece to enhance the beauty of the wood and to make that grain stand out. Now it is up to those who look at the piece to decide whether it was good to save the wood from the fireplace. For the turner it is time to get another cup of coffee, take the chainsaw in hand, and stare at the rest of the log to dream of the next creation. Unlike the phoenix, before the ashes comes new life. Another logging truck goes down the road. For the turner it is a field of dreams. Lucky Dip for Loan Applicants

Saturday, February 16th, 2008

By [http://ezinearticles.com/?expert=Michael_Challiner]Michael Challiner Things are not looking too rosy on the loans front. It appears that there are huge problems with debt in the UK. Banks are increasingly nervous about the state of things and feel that lending is risky at present as a result of this. The result is an increasing number of rejections of loan applications. Most of the major banks have taken the decision to introduce a new process, called personal pricing, which involves the matching of the rate offered to the result of your credit investigations. If you have an excellent credit rating youll receive the optimum loan offer and conversely a poor rating will cost you more in interest, or even result in your application being rejected. Whilst this sounds a perfectly logical decision, its going to prove difficult for consumers, who will have trouble in choosing the most suitable lender if theyre not aware of the interest rate theyre likely to be offered. There could be problems though, if having gone through the application procedure, the rate on offer is too high. If you reject the deal you risk your credit record being damaged. Each time you make an application for a loan, a footprint will be left on your file. A number of these will make loan companies very wary of offering credit. Its probably most likely that your own existing bank will be able to arrange a loan, although it is probably not going to be as competitive as other deals on offer on the market. High street banks are not known for offering the best rates. Many people use comparison tables, via websites, to find the cheapest lenders. Obviously the companies using the personal pricing method cant be included in the tables as they dont publish a typical rate. Of the banks that still use headline rates in their advertising, lenders are refusing loans for high proportions of applicants and the successful applicants are being offered loans at a higher rate than that advertised. The Consumer Credit Act of 2004 requires lenders advertising loans using typical rates to offer that rate of at least 66% of successful borrowers. This rule is obviously not valid where an advertisement does not include a typical rate. Its going to be a struggle to find the best deals with these hidden interest rates, which is surely going to cause confusion. A recent survey of around 3,000 would-be borrowers showed some surprising results. Four out of ten applicants were turned down for a loan within 48 hours. A quarter of applicants had their loans approved and the remainder were still awaiting a decision on the loan several days later. Its thought likely that only around half of these applications will result in a loan being granted. Obviously some help is needed to avoid multiple applications and possible rejections. The easiest way to find whats happening in the loan market is to log on to the internet and find an on-line financial advisor. Flu Virus And Bird Flu - Can Flu And Avian Flu Be Cured With Antibiotics?

Friday, February 15th, 2008

By [http://ezinearticles.com/?expert=Ian_Mason] Ian Mason To understand this, let us first have a look on what Flu and Avian Flu is. What is flu? Flu is a disease which has the following symptoms. They are fever with temperature above 38 degree centigrade or 100 degree Fahrenheit. You may also suffer from chills, muscular pain, severe headaches, tiredness, and a loss in your appetite, soreness of the throat, cough and chest pain. The symptoms may last for a few days and will heal with medication. Some of the people may suffer from this, which may last for a few weeks. What is obliviously needed is a good rest and you are required to consume large quantities of water preferably warm. Symptoms in children may include abdominal pain. This should not be confused with appendicitis. Children may also suffer from convulsions. Drugs to treat the flu are limited. Drugs like Amantadine and Rimantdine have been around for a number of decades. But recent studies have shown that they are that effective against the type B influenza. New drugs have been introduced in the market. They are sold by the trade name of Tamiflu with Oseltamivir as its main composition. There is another drug known as Zanamivir. This drug is sold by the trade name of Relenza. This drug is also highly effective against flu. Both these drugs are used and highly effective for both types of flu i.e. the type A influenza and the type B influenza. The flu is caused by the virus. Generally the virus is found with two protein factors, the H factor and the N factor. There are sixteen different H factors and nine different N factors. A combination of these factors gives one the flu virus. The H1N1 virus has caused the Spanish influenza in the year 1918. This virus has killed an estimated 40 to 50 million people all over the world. And let me tell you that the flu can be avoided by one simple measure. You should take your annual flu shot regularly. Most of the common flu can be tackled with this flu shot. What is avian flu? Avian flu is a strain of the virus that I have been discussing in the preceding paragraphs. They consist of enormous groups of viruses (a combination of the H factor and N factor) that are infecting the birds. Sometimes these viruses also find other species as hosts. Here they mutate taking the host and develop into a new strain of the virus. Most varieties of the avian influenza do not affect the human species. But when it does infect human species then it is found to be deadly. The particularity of the avian influenza is that it has so far not caused infection among humans. And if this takes place then we are doomed, for a new strain would have developed and this can be quite dangerous. What are antibiotics used for? Antibiotics are primarily, a drug to cure, one of bacterial infections. The flu being a viral infection will not find a remedy in antibiotics. In viral infections when one is infected by the influenza and the flu has reached proportions of the pneumonia. The bacteria in the body start to inflate. This is going to require antibiotics. From the above facts that I have stated, it is very clear that you will be quite sure that avian flu and flu cannot be treated with antibiotics. Make a Difference - Join a Genealogical or Historical Society Today

Thursday, February 14th, 2008

By Gene Hall Since family information has become so available on the Internet, many people dont realize the vital role still played by local genealogical societies. While all of the press and excitement has been focused online, these organizations have quietly gone about their business of preserving history and making it available to the world. Societies come in many different flavors but mainly are . . . Geographically based like Chrystal Lake Historical Society located at http://www.cl-hs.org/ Surname focused like the Musick Family Association located at http://www.musick.com/ Event focused like the Bolzano ‘World War I Historical Society’ located at http://www.provinz.bz.it/museenfuehrer/english/detail.asp?ORGA_ID=822 Ethnicity focused like the Australian Jewish Genealogy Society at http://www.cl-hs.org/ They almost all have one thing in common they are managed and run almost exclusively by volunteers. These organizations are experts at making do with the resources at hand, leveraging facilities, information, and personnel into viable organizations that preserve our heritage for future generations. Generally these societies are organized as non-profit corporations and those without such legal designation are still just trying to break even. No matter where you live, there is likely such an organization near you. Continued support from current and future members and friends will keep them viable. Here are a few good reasons why you should join these people and make a difference. Meet People: A local organization is a great place to meet people who truly care about history and families; people who can teach you wonderful lessons about research, history, and life. We have all used the services of a society that houses the archives and genealogical library for a local town or county. Just think back on that experience helpful people providing accurate and timely information for the cost of copies, shipping, or a small donation. You can work directly with these people, learn from them, and help each other as you search for your family. Its fun: Do you remember the first time you stared at the record in front of you before breaking into whoops of joy at finding your long-lost ancestor? Do you remember the days of excitement while you told your family about the discovery? We only get a few of those moments usually scattered over the years of searching. You can gather a few more of these moments vicariously through your local genealogy society. When you find an ancestor for someone else, it is almost as much fun as finding your own. Society offices, museums, and libraries are filled with excitement and stories of these wonderful moments shared together. One good deed deserves another: I joined the Greene County Genealogy Society in Tennessee several years ago when they helped me climb over one of the brick walls that occasionally block our research path. Their diligence and knowledge of the local archives produced the Last Will and Testament of my ancestor, James H. Hall, Sr. and named his entire family and a flood of new information for me. The cost: $3.00 for copies and mailing. Woo Hoo! by far the biggest bargain I have ever received. I sent a check for a lifetime membership in lieu of the $3.00 charge. I dont even live near Greene County, but the membership has continued to produce information about my family there including a diary that mentions James and other members of the family along with details about their lives. You might choose to join a local society where you can participate on a daily or weekly basis. Donate your talents: Dont have money available to join? Donate your time and talent. Societies are always looking for people with all kinds of talents or people with time to do all kinds of tasks. Can you organize, answer phones, research data? Are you interested in transcribing documents, indexing, raising money, promoting the group? Whatever your talents and interests, the local society can use them and you will reap the rewards of helping other people sometimes people you have never met. Donate money: Dont have time to join and play an active part? Societies can always use donations to improve their displays, repair the plumbing, or pay the light bills. Money is always appreciated in a non-profit organization. You never know what the need are until you ask. My suggestion is that you allow the local group to decide how to best spend your donation; dont attach any strings to the donation. Those who are active on committees and boards are in the best position to spend the money in the best possible way. You can make a difference dont delay. Join a society today!
